Today I made preparations to install the wings on the fuselage. This will be a test fit to make sure everything fits. I asked my Grandsons to assist. Cameron and Kaleb were the main helpers. I rolled the work table out onto the driveway. I used a strap to hold the fuselage on the table because the wind began to blow.
I moved the wing stand to the front of the garage and took the flaperons off of the wings. I placed the flaperons on a table in the garage.
I set up two saw horses to support the wings. Actually only one was needed, but I went the extra mile. We inserted the left wing and with a little effort got the bushings lined up and the spar pins inserted into the left spar locking it in place. The saw horse supported the left wing and helped to keep the fuselage from rolling over.
Next we installed the right wing. It was a little difficult to get the wing in. The boys had a hard time keeping the wing level and we really crammed Cameron against the fence. Kaleb jumped in and helped Cameron while I lined up the spar in the slot.
It took some extra effort to get the right wing to seat properly. I pushed and wiggled the end of the wing but at last I had to resort to a strap to pull it into place. In the end it all worked out and the wing was installed.
I will need to work on the slotted openings in the fuselage before I install the wings again. All in all, in the end both wings were successfully installed and it is beginning to take shape as an airplane.
